No-Dig Pipe Relining Cost Guide

An old, cracked or frequently blocked pipe doesn’t automatically mean a full dig-up. Some pipes are a good candidate for no-dig relining; others have too much damage and need full excavation and replacement. The price you pay will depend on several factors: the length of the pipe run, how accessible it is, the number of joints that require sealing, and the extent of the damage.

Generally, relining can be more cost-effective than excavation and replacement, especially if the existing pipe is accessible for relining. This approach can save you from the need to dig up and restore your garden, paving, driveway, or slab. To get an accurate estimate for your specific situation, a CCTV inspection is essential.

There isn’t a reliable flat rate for pipe relining per metre. A narrow bathroom drain and a large-diameter sewer main use different liner thicknesses and different resin volumes, so they’re never priced the same way per metre. Access points matter too: a job with one clear access point runs faster and cheaper per metre than a job needing two or three points cut in to reach the damaged section. Older pre-1980 clay pipework around Eden, Pambula and Merimbula sometimes needs extra prep at each joint before the liner goes in, which also changes the per-metre figure. That’s why we can’t quote a flat per-metre rate without seeing the pipe first.

Sewer pipe relining generally costs more than relining a smaller internal drain. They run deeper, sit at a larger diameter, and often need a full CCTV survey plus root clearing before the liner can go in. Access is harder too: most sewer relines need at least one dig-free access point cut into an inspection chamber or the existing line, rather than the simpler entry points used on smaller drains. None of this is unusual. It’s a bigger job by nature, and like drain relining, it’s quoted after an inspection, not off a price list.

The cheapest option isn’t always the right one for a damaged pipe. The best solution depends on the condition of the existing pipe, how accessible it is, and what sits above it, such as a garden, driveway or slab. In some cases, pipe relining can repair the damage without excavation, while other pipes may need to be fully replaced.

In some situations, replacing your drainage pipes might be the best option. A fully collapsed pipe has nothing left for a liner to bond to. Severe joint misalignment, or when more than about half the pipe’s diameter is offset, is usually beyond what a liner can repair. A line with a genuine back-fall problem, where water pools because the pipe doesn’t run downhill properly, needs regrading, which relining can’t fix on its own.
If the pipe still has enough structural integrity for a liner to bond to it, relining may be a suitable alternative to excavation and replacement.

Most relines carry a 25-year warranty. In practice, a well-installed liner tends to outlast that: 50 years or more isn’t unusual, which is longer than a lot of the original clay and concrete pipework it replaces. Tree roots don’t come back either. Once the liner cures, the joints roots used to get through are sealed for good.
